It was some time ago before I married my beautiful fiance. She had always been a down to earth girl who cared for the simpler things and was just a happy and carefree spirit. One day she asked me to drive her to this old property. I did as I was asked and we took a look around. She already had a key to the place so I assumed that she was getting some belongings from here. She asked if I could take a look around and fix a bit of food for later and I happily agreed. I went inside to make food and to check the place out for around forty minutes. I was taken aback by all the photos of people who looked like her. Her parents, her brother, grandparents and possibly other ancestors. When I had decided to go outside to look for my wife to be, I found her shoes by the door. I found it a bit odd and from the distance, I heard her calling my name from an old and damaged fence while she was covered from leg to toe in mud carrying what seemed to be a bag of some sort.

"Oh, you're probably wondering why I'm so dirty deary, well I just had a few memories playing in my late grandfather's yard and collecting smooth stones by the creek and I just wanted to relive those moments again. Hehehe, can you believe we'll inherit this place in a few months? So much fixing up to do... Mother always got on to me and my brother for not wearing shoes when we ventured into the fields and hated the idea of us getting muddy and dusty when we played outside. She always feared footprints in the house and thought it was 'unladylike or ungentlemanlike' to be dirty like this, but father and grandfather never thought this way. They both thought that it was ok for us to get our feet a little dirty every once in a while as long as we cleaned ourselves using the fountain by the door. I guess they were used to living barefoot as well. I bet mother would get upset seeing me like this now. Hahaha, I miss those days so much, everything was so much simpler then... Hey, I hope that when we get married, you won't mind seeing me and our future kids muddied from head to toe, will you? "

This was a bit odd for me. I had lived my life in the city so being barefoot outside had been a foreign thing for me. But then again, when I met her it was the first time I really spent time in the countryside. I found it so much more welcoming and peaceful than in the city. I assured her that if that is what made her happy then I would be perfectly fine with a little dirt in our future. I got out my phone and asked for a picture of her by the fence holding her stones. She wanted her grandfather's old home to be a place of wonderful memories for us and our future family and I was going to give her what she wanted. Memories together.
